We recently concluded an insightful exploration of the Emilia-Romagna model of the “Centre of Vocational Excellence” (CoVE) in Reggio Emilia. This study visit, part of the Policy Board Study Visits, focused on the topics of digital and green skills in advanced manufacturing, innovation and internationalisation of Vocational Education and Training (VET) policy, and best practices. The visit highlighted how these strategies align with the regional Smart Specialization Strategy, driving innovation and talent retention.

The Policy Board Study Visit in Italy was an enriching experience, full of enlightening discussions and valuable insights.

Fabrizio Timo’s discussion on up/re-skilling in Advanced Manufacturing provided a nuanced understanding of the evolving industry demands. Luca Torri, CEO of Reggiane Parco Innovazione, shared pioneering initiatives within the Reggiane Innovation Park, while Fabiola Bertolotti from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia offered invaluable insights into the intersection of education and industry dynamics.

Day 2 Highlights:

The second day began at the Emilia-Romagna Region Headquarters in Bologna, featuring profound discussions and strategic insights. From policy presentations to interactive sessions, stakeholders delved into VET policies, talent attraction strategies, and case studies linked to the EXCEED project. The day culminated in a dynamic brainstorming session, sparking collaborative ideas for future endeavors.

The EXCEED Policy Board Study Visit to Emilia-Romagna was more than a journey of exploration; it was a valuable opportunity to deepen our understanding of VET policies and their regional implementation. This platform facilitated meaningful exchanges, fostered collaboration, and paved the way for future endeavors in enhancing workforce development strategies.
