The EXCEED – Excellence in Green and Digital Manufacturing project represents a strategic European initiative aimed at transforming vocational education and training (VET) systems to meet the demands of the green and digital transition.
Co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, EXCEED brings together a strong consortium of partners committed to fostering innovation, sustainability, and skills development across Europe. The project focuses on bridging the gap between education, industry, and policy by promoting new approaches to training, collaboration, and talent development.
From Vision to Action: The Project Launch
The journey of EXCEED officially began with its online kick-off meeting, which marked the starting point of a collaborative effort toward a more resilient and future-oriented manufacturing sector.
This initial meeting played a crucial role in aligning partners around a shared vision and defining the project’s strategic priorities. Key objectives were established, including:
- developing innovative curricula tailored to emerging industry needs
- promoting eco-digital innovation in advanced manufacturing
- strengthening international cooperation in VET
- creating a dedicated Talent Factory to support skills development
- establishing an international observatory to share knowledge and best practices
The kick-off also highlighted the importance of upskilling and reskilling in response to the twin green and digital transition, setting the tone for a project strongly rooted in sustainability and innovation.
A European Platform for Skills and Innovation
EXCEED is more than a project—it is a growing ecosystem connecting education providers, research institutions, and industry stakeholders. Its approach emphasizes:
- innovation in training systems, ensuring that learners acquire relevant and future-proof competences
- collaboration across borders, enabling knowledge exchange and shared solutions
- integration of sustainability and digitalisation, particularly in advanced manufacturing contexts
Through its activities, EXCEED contributes to strengthening the role of VET in supporting Europe’s industrial transformation and competitiveness.
Driving Change in Vocational Excellence
At its core, EXCEED addresses one of Europe’s most pressing challenges: aligning skills development with rapidly evolving labour market needs. By combining green practices with digital technologies, the project promotes a new model of vocational excellence that is both sustainable and industry-relevant.
The initiative also places strong emphasis on talent development, recognising the need to attract, nurture, and retain skilled professionals within local and regional ecosystems.
Looking Ahead
Since its launch, EXCEED has continued to evolve through collaborative activities, stakeholder engagement, and the development of innovative tools and methodologies. From its initial vision presented at the kick-off meeting to its ongoing implementation, the project is steadily building a framework for long-term impact in vocational education and training.
As Europe accelerates its transition toward a greener and more digital economy, initiatives like EXCEED play a key role in ensuring that skills, talent, and innovation remain at the forefront.
